The need for patients who are seriously ill or injured to be provided with immediate treatment, in some cases at specialist centres, is growing significantly in Nigeria. This includes patients with serious trauma injuries and patients having suffered a stroke or a major cardiological incident. The increasing need for major trauma and specialist care will result in an increase in primary referrals and require air ambulance services to work closely with practitioners to ensure that patients are taken to suitable places from the scene of the incident within the first hour. EAMS (Nigeria) has developed the most suitable service to address the need of patients by delivering an integrated air ambulance service that provides helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) and an air ambulance capability.
